4 Last Minute Tips for Running in the Cold

It's so hard to prepare for a race sometimes because the weather can change quickly especially in the fall/winter.  It has happened to me at a runDisney race in the past, and I learned these quick tips to surviving.

1. Hydrate
You still sweat even if you are cold and dehydration can sneak up on you.  Be sure and drink water/powerade how you normally would on an average day.

2. Layer
If you didn't bring anything extra to layer or plan for possible layers into your costume, use the Expo.  Purchase coordinating long sleeve dri fit to wear under your tank top, warmers to cover your ears, sleeves for your arms, compressions socks for your legs, etc.  The Expo has awesome vendors who can work to help you accessories your costume, stay cute, and stay warm.

3. Throw Aways
Staying in the corrals can be the coldest part of the day.  The temperatures can still drop while waiting for the sun to rise, and you will need extra layers to stave the chills off.  If you didn't plan for throw a way, use the Expo again.  I've pick up cover ups, blankets, gloves and hand warmers there in the past.

4. Don't Panic
Use your best judgement; if you need to change your costume plans, do it.  Just chalk it up as a lesson learned and plan better for your next race!

Have you had weather the change on you while on a race vacation?  I'd love to hear your stories.
