Tips to Create a Vacation With A Reading Purpose!

A great way to encourage reading is for your kids to earn their way to a vacation destination!  Kids love watching a movie or playing video games, and reading, unfortunately, has become the media of last resort. So, you have to find a way to turn reading or the Reading Fair into a challenge with an

Star Wars Weekends 2013 Recap - Part 1

What a great start to Star Wars the Weekend (SSW) Weekend 2!  I can not believe they put SWW and the Monstrous 24 Hours together!  It was crazy!

Hollywood Studios opened at 8 am.  I was there by 7 and was #5 in line.   As in the past, the park opened early - at 7:28 am!   The Storm Troopers were not guarding the gate this year.  I missed them.  They were so much fun to watch while you waited for the park to open.  But, they were just inside the park though, mixing it up with the crowd once we got inside.  Great to be there early - the park is shady and cool in the morning.  Great time to stand in line for character shots!

I stayed in the park until 9:30.  Breakfast was at Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club, so I walked over from the park.  There is a great path from Hollywood Studios to the Boardwalk Area - approximately 2 miles in length.

Breakfast was better than I remembered.  The Cast Member told us the menu had changed - and it had!
Lots of healthy choices on the buffet, which was great for me, and I got candid shots with Minnie and Donald.  I powered up on protein and headed back to SWW.

My next stop was Darth's Mall.  A MUST DO for SWW.  Great merchandise and Ashely Eckstein was there signing autographs!  I worked my way in, begging and pleading to get in line.  She is an awesome person!  She took her time with each fan, talking and taking pictures.  I'm definitely a fangirl of hers and was so excited to meet her!

Many die-hard Hoopla fans, which does include myself, start lining up 2 - 3 hours ahead of time for the Hoopla.   The crowd was all the way from the Hat to the Gate!  Disney mixed things up this year by moving the Mind Challege from right before the Hoopla to 4:30pm.  In its place they had an awesome Rebel DJ -  He really rocked the crowd and got us ready for the Hoopla!  AND the Hyperspace Hoopla was worth the wait.  Great music and great dance off this year!

After the Hoopla and a refuel at Sci Fi Diner, I headed over to the Magic Kingdom to finish out the night. This park was rockin' too with the All Night Dance Party at Cinderella's Castle.  Donald, Goofy, Genie and Pluto were in the crowd dancing to the beats.  Lots of fun!  I was out till 4am!

It was a GREAT start to the weekend.  Not only did I have a blast, I found some surprising ways to eat healthy, and by using a pedometer, I saw that I walked a total of 10 miles!  Stay Tuned... More to come!

Star Wars Weekends 2014 Recap

Star Wars Weekends 2014 weekend II was a blast!   It was different than years past, but so much fun!

We started off leaving late on Thursday night after work.  We love flying Southwest and flying out of Nola!

Zatarains is a great place to eat in the Southwest Terminal and very affordable for airport fair!

We had some trouble once in Orlando.  Disney's Magical Express (DME) made us wait almost 2 hours on the bus for all the late arrivals.  By the time we got to the hotel, it was 3 am.  The Cast Member at the Caribbean Beach was very nice, but she couldn't pull up our reservation:  it was "lost".  And somehow mysteriously, my magic band that worked at the airport when I signed into DME became deactivated when I showed up at the Caribbean Beach.  We were given a room, but were told we would have to wait till 5:45 when the day shift checked in before we could have access to our meals and tickets and magic bands.   So... no sleep for me.
