Top Places to Eat in NOLA for Wizard Con

Visiting New Orleans?  Don't forget that our food is a part of the rich culture of New Orleans!  A lot of people share their business trips to New Orleans with family, and the Morial Convention Center is close to some really great family friendly restaurants!  Here are my top picks!

1.  Mother's Restaurant
Convention Center Family Friendly Restaurants
Mother's Restaurant opened in 1938 and has been a staple for home-cooked, local flavor ever since!  We don't just eat in New Orleans, we enjoy our food in New Orleans!  And Mother's is a great place to start!  Located at 401 Poydras Street, this stop is just a quick walk from the Convention Center, open from 7am to 10pm, 7 days a week!

2.  Cafe Du Monde
Cafe au Lait and Beignets
Cafe Du Monde is famous for its Beignets and Cafe au Lait!  Who wouldn't want these powdery-good treats!  They are irresistible!  Cafe Du Monde is located on 800 Decatur Street; from the Convention Center, hop on the Riverfront Street Car and hop off at the Dumaine Station.

Tip:  Standard Transit Fare is $1.25 per person one way, so bring correct change!

3. Johnny's Po Boys
French Quarter New Orleans Seafood
Johnny's Po Boys is located in the Heart of the French Quarter and is a New Orleans landmark.
It is known for it's delicious large po-boys that you have to wash down with a Barq's Rootbeer!  It has great burgers, too, for the picky eaters in your family!  Take the Riverfront Street Car to the Toulouse  Station, cross over to Decatur, turn left and then right St Louis, Street.

Tip:  Johnny's is Cash Only.  They do have an ATM on premises, but avoid the fees and bring cash!
Remember the standard Transit Fare is $1.25 per person one way, so bring correct change!

4. Mulates
Louisiana Atmosphere Alligator

Mulate's is definitely a place to catch some local flavor!  With a very festive atmosphere, and lots of authentic Cajun food,  Mulates gives your family a quick, tasty treat of Louisiana!  Try the alligator or savor the bread pudding; whatever you choose, will leave full and happy!  Mulate's is located within walking distance from the Convention Center at 201 Julia Street.

Tip:  If you are strapped for time, have a seat at the bar and order there!  Mulate's can be a more expensive lunch stop so plan accordingly.

5. Emeril's

Emeril Lagasse

Chef Emeril Lagasse has his signature restaurant Emeril's on the corner of Julia and Tchoupitoulas, which is just a few steps from the Convention Center.  If you need to feel more upscale in your setting and menus, this is the place to be.  Everything is delicious at Emeril's!  And you can not lose by stopping here!

Tip:  The wait may be a little long at Emeril's, but the experience and food is worth it!

6. Ernst Cafe
Locally Owned New Orleans Flavor

Ernst Cafe has been locally owned and operated for over 100 years, and provides a variety of local favorites!  It's casual feel and great food will keep you coming back!  Located at 600 South Peters, it is another close restaurant within walking distance of the Convention Center.
