Being SMART About Fitness

We all talk about what we want to do:  lose weight, run faster, run farther.  But getting there can be ambiguous sometimes;  as it is for me.   So 6 months into the year, it's time to readjust, rethink, replan: to be SMART about my fitness.

In order to work through a SMART fitness plan, you have to start with 5 basic questions:

1. What are your specific goals?

2. How will you know that you've completed your goals?

3. What is your plan to accomplish the goals?

4. Are your goals realistic considering everything you have going on?

5. When do you want your goals completed?

So, after making myself sit down and answer these questions, my SMART plan comes down to this:

Specific
I want to build and tone arms, core, legs; lose 5% body fat; complete a 10K in August

Measurable
Visibly see more muscle definition and less fat;  Use a body fat scale; Use Garmin to measure miles

Attainable
Add 20 grams of lean protein a day; Strength and weight training 3 x a week; Run 2 x a week and Zumba or other cardio 1 x a week; 1 day of rest

Realistic
Summer heat will require some gym time or early morning/late night runs, but I will be able to get them in.

Timely
By the end of the summer, August 28th.  11 weeks.

Now I have a plan!  For the next 11 weeks, everything will be geared toward meeting these goals.

Would you like to join me?  It always helps to be accountable and have friends that encourage and motivate you along the way.  So, sit down and map out your next 11 weeks!

I want to know... What are your SMART goals?
