Coast 2 Coast With A Purpose: The April Challenge

Many of you are participating or following our Coast 2 Coast Virtual Challenge:  the virtual step challenge from Disneyland to Disney World  which we hope to complete in November.   But did you know that there is actually a family walking from Disneyland to Disney World?  The Cobb Family is walking from Kingdom to Kingdom in memory of their daughter, Julia.
The Cobb Family at the Capitol in Jackson, Mississippi
I had the privilege of talking to Jennifer, Julia's mom, while she was in Jackson, and I want to share their story and inspire you to help them on their magical journey.

When their daughter, Julia, passed from a rare form of pediatric sarcoma, they had no idea this is what they would be doing in her honor.  But it sprang from a need to help heal, remember their struggle and to keep the dream of a cure alive.  During her illness she was given a trip to Disneyland, and then a Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World.  On their last day at Disney World Julia developed a fever and was not able to make it home.   Her family likes to say she passed from "one Kingdom to the next".   These trips to Disney built happy memories and became the inspiration for the walk from Disneyland to Disney World.

It was such an honor talking to Jennifer: it help put into perspective what this really means and what their day to day struggles are.   The trials of dealing with an incurable cancer and the hopelessness of losing your daughter can be overwhelming.   But their decision to take their cause to the road and raise awareness for pediatric cancer will bring hope for the cure and encouragement for others sharing the same battles.  This walk across America isn't for fun, it is for their daughter; and this effort comes with the day to day reality of walking all day, the uncertainty of where you are going to spend the night, and the financial concern of covering everyday expenses.

This is where we can all become part of their journey: we can help raise awareness for pediatric cancer by spreading the word, and we can help give tangible support to provide for gas, food and lodging.

Let's make our every day fitness routine mean something:  Plan now to donate throughout the month of April to the JuCan Foundation and here's what you can do.

1.  Get Social!  During the month of April, for every post/picture of you and your family walking/running on the Coast 2 Coast Event Page, I will donate $1 to the Cobb Family and you will earn an entry for a Special Giveaway from Bain Amour Bath & Body, Co (TBA).  (You guys have really put a lot of effort in posting status and pictures in the past, this should be very easy and is free!!)

2.  Make a Goal!  Decide now that for every day you count steps during the month of April, you will donate 50 cents, $1, $2 (whatever you can)

3. Make a One Time Gift!  If walking or running is not your thing or you don't count steps, then give a one time gift of any amount!

You can donate directly on their website, or send me a VISA Gift Card or Disney Gift Card with your donation:  I will be mailing the gift cards USPS Secured for safety, and will be sending Western Union Cash Donations weekly.

This April, I challenge you to reach outside your comfort zone, because the Cobb Family has reached outside theirs.  Get your community involved, it will take all of us to get them Walt Disney World!
