Dashing Through The Dome 2014

What better way to spend a rainy, cold night than running through the Superdome!  And that's exactly what I did this past Friday at the Dashing Through The Dome Race!

The Dashing Through The Dome event was a 2-mile Ramp Run through the Superdome ending on the field!  Participants received an awesome t shirt and tickets to the New Orleans Bowl!

This event turned out to be a race for all ages and even Santa!

I met lots of interesting people including a couple of elves from Mandeville!

Sandi Thomas and Pam Masson came, much for the same reasons I did, to enjoy this unique event and see the Superdome!

And the most enjoyable to see out for the race were Youth Run Nola!

I spoke to the Executive Director of Youth Run NOLA, Denali Lander, and she explained how the organization empowers youth through running.

The program is available to public schools in the New Orleans area, and corporate sponsors, such as the Crescent City Classic, provide for the Youth's race entry fees!  She had 65 kids racing at the Dome with ages ranging from 11 to 18.

I spoke to one student from Andrew Jackson, Jeffrey Bell, who loves running, was shooting for a 12 minute time at the race, and was training for the Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon!  Pretty awesome kid!

It was really inspiring to see so many young runners pumped up to be there and to see volunteers sharing their love of running, too!

I even joined in warming up with the kids before we headed to the start!

This race was perfect for walkers and competitive runners, alike because you could approach the ramps as your personal challenge:  take them fast or take them slow.

It was a tough run, but no matter how hard the ramps felt, the site of field and running on the sidelines was well worth it!

Just being in the Superdome and being with such a great group of Saints and running fans was an experience of a lifetime!

Thanks to the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation and Crescent City Classic for an outstanding event!

The people of New Orleans plus the atmosphere of this race, will make it one that I will look forward to next year and will become another Holiday Tradition!
